Student Scholarship Application – 2011

The Redmond High School PTSA is accepting scholarship applications. The purpose of these scholarships is to provide recognition of overall achievement and community service by giving a one-time monetary award to be used for further education at a vocational, 2-year or 4-year institution.

The RHS PTSA will award a total of three scholarships of $1,000 each. There are two standard merit-based scholarships, and new this year, we will also award one 180-Degree Scholarship. The 180-Degree scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who demonstrates a turn-around in their lives and a determination for continued improvement. All scholarships must be used in the 2011 – 2012 school year.

In the event the recipient has not used the scholarship at a college, university or vocational school of his/her choice by January 11, 2012, the PTSA scholarship will remain in the RHS PTSA Scholarship fund.

The Scholarship Committee has set the following timeline:

March 7, 2011   Applications are available in the Career Center and online at the Redmond High School website under the Scholarship Bulletin and on the RHS PTSA website (www.redmondhsptsa.org).

April 8, 2011     Application deadline.  All applications from students must meet the criteria in the cover sheet and be postmarked or delivered by 5:00pm Friday April 8, 2011.  Applications will not be accepted after this postmark date.

April – May 2011-Applications will be read and rated by the committee. Redmond High School and families of the recipients will be notified.

May - June 2011   Scholarships will be awarded at the RHS PTSA Meeting and graduation.

The Redmond High School PTSA Scholarships are awarded to further the education of the chosen Redmond High School Senior recipients and may only be used to pay for tuition, required textbooks, or room and board for on-campus housing.  The scholarship must be used by January 11, 2012. 

The Scholarship Committee will award scholarships based on the following criteria:

      1.  Extra-curricular and community service activities

      2.  Academic excellence and motivation

      3.  Future goals                          

      4.  Essay response

      5.  Character references

      6.  Correct completion of the application

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT:

The following REQUIREMENTS must be met for your application to be accepted:

1.  Complete this form, typewritten or legibly printed.  The first page, where your name and address is requested, as well as the character references may be either typed or legibly printed. 

2.  Paper clip ALL attachments to the application. DO NOT USE STAPLES.

3.  Attach to the application form:

            a.   A copy of your high school transcript including the first semester of your senior year.

            b.  Two letters of character reference.  One should be from a faculty member at Redmond High School. The other may be from a fellow student, employer, family friend, or other appropriate individual.  Letters of recommendation from members of your immediate family are not acceptable.  Reference letters must be submitted in a sealed envelope with a signature over the seal by the author. 

             c.  Include only that information specifically requested in the application. (DO NOT include notebooks, portfolios, etc.)

4.   Applications MUST BE POSTMARKED OR DELIVERED BY 5:00PM FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2011. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE!
