Opportunities 2011-2012
Parent
involvement is important at RHS!
All volunteers that wish to volunteer at any LWSD school, during
OR after school hours on the school grounds or
field trips (ie: concession stands, dance
chaperone, etc) need to be cleared by the
district by filling out the school district's
volunteer application packet.
There is now a much faster
way to fill out these forms on-line!
All parents can complete
the volunteer application packet when you
sign-on to your Parent Access--which
is easy to do directly from the RHS web site -
http://www.lwsd.org/rhs
Hit the tab at top of page
that says "FOR PARENTS" and you will see
where is says Parent Access.
Look half way down and you'll see a red school
house icon with words "Volunteer
Application". Click on that and you will get a
pre-populated form with your data at the
beginning of it!
If a parent is not familiar
with Parent Access, you can still complete a
paper version of the application, which can be
pulled from the district Web site, here:

Volunteering at RHS is a great way to show your
student that their education is very important
to you.
It is also a way to get acquainted with
the students, staff and parents.
Please review the following opportunities
listed below and mark your areas of interest.
Whether you choose a one-time activity or an
on-going one, your help will be greatly
appreciated!

Academic Support:
This
list of parent volunteers gets sent to teachers
that would like help.
This help could be in or out of the
classroom.
ACT/SAT Practice Test:
Help coordinate or be a proctor for practice
college prep tests for students.
Princeton Review administers the test.

Baccalaureate:
Assist parent volunteers and
participating students for this annual,
inspiration program for graduating seniors. This
is a family event held a few days before
graduation. Chairs:

Constant Contact:
Looking for 1-2 people that could post
information on the email communication tool used
by families at RHS. Basic computer knowledge is
required. All work is done from home and
requires approx. 2 hours per week.

Emergency Preparedness:
Help coordinate and maintain emergency
preparedness supplies for our school.
Chair: Deena Polk
Hospitality:
Committee coordinates volunteers to provide
refreshments and refreshment service (including
set up and clean up) for events such as Student
dances, Incoming Sophomore Parent Night,
Culminating Project Celebration, etc.

Legislative Action Alert Team:
Be part of a team that receives and acts on info
& action items via e-mail about current
legislative issues relayed from State and
District Council PTSA.
Can include trip to Olympia to meet with
state legislators and vote on behalf of RHS.

Multicultural
Program:
Committee works with RHS language staff to set
up an annual event for multilingual families.
Chair: Sue Nelson
Newsletter Editor:
Compile
information for the PTSA newsletter that goes
out monthly to all RHS families and staff.

Newsletter
Production:
Help with the
folding and labeling of approximately 100
monthly newsletters.
The Mustang Messenger is available online
so most families choose to read it online rather
than receive a copy in the mail. Chair:

Parent Education:
Help set up and direct parents to location for
these special events where speakers are invited
to talk to parents. This is done in the evening
about 4-6 times a year. Chair:

Phone Callers:
For the Levy election that takes place on Feb
9th, 2010, volunteers make reminder calls at
home to assist in identifying the "Yes" voters
to ensure passage of ballot issues. This is
essentially a renewal of funding to cover 20% of
the LWSD annual budget. Script provided. Date
TBA.
Reflections:
This national PTSA sponsored program recognizes
student entries in literature, visual arts,
dance, film/video, photography and music.
Help coordinate program, publicity and
reception. Chair:

Loschen
Senior Grad Night:
Coordinates the overnight alcohol/drug free
senior post-graduation celebration sponsored by
PTSA with safety in mind.
Need parent volunteers from
all
grades. Chairs: Kathleen Kulchin and

Special Needs:
The Special Needs coordinator for the LWPTSA
Council is Beth Angelo. She can be

This committee provides special lunches for RHS
staff throughout the year.

Lake Washington Schools Foundation:
The Foundation complements the work of PTSA. It
looks at issues from a district-wide view and
was established to help our community
stakeholders directly and efficiently invest in
classroom learning. Volunteers assist in
mailings to donors and our greater community,
general office help, working on events, etc.

LINKS – Mentoring & Tutoring:
Work one-on-one with students or help teachers
in the classroom to offer guidance and
encouragement, at all grade levels, to students
who need extra help with their academic, social
and emotional development. Ongoing training and
guidance is provided to volunteers. Program
